Dr. Nadja Cech is Patricia A. Sullivan Professor of Chemistry at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). She has had a lifelong interest in the use of plants for medicine, stemming from her involvement as a child in establishing one of the world's largest medicinal plant and seed companies, a company still operated by her family today. In this episode, Nadja talks about her unusual start in life, her love of nature and gardening which led to being a research chemist studying medicinal plant compounds, and her current take on whole plant synergy vs. single-molecule medicines.

Dr. Cech leads a dynamic research group at UNCG, funded by the National Institute of Health, for which a major focus is developing ways to understand synergy and complexity in medicinal plants. She has published more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific papers.
